2017 Graduates of AASTU, CONGRATULATIONS!

The ultimate resource for any country’s development is not its embedded resources but the capacity of its human’s mind.

On July first, 2017 Addis Ababa Science and Technology University held its graduation ceremony for the class of 2017 at the presence of H.E. Dr. Ing. Getahun Mekuria, Minster, Ministry of Science and Technology, high government officials and invited guests. At this convocation, the University graduates 1540 BSC and 168 MSC students in Applied Science, ICT and Engineering fields.

In his commencement address, Dr. Ing Getahun Mekuria congratulated the students and said that graduation is the result of years of hard work, dedication, and commitment by students, parents, teachers, and the university management. Since the country enacted its growth and transformation plan, we are witnessing remarkable achievements in real GDP growth at all levels. To continue this development, he says, a lot is expected from today’s graduates to realize our economic vision, which is becoming a middle income country by 2025.

Dr. Ing. Getahun Mekuria , finally remind the graduates  to serve their country and its people by exhibiting being a Public Servant. An Exemplary public servants, he says, does her/his job efficiently and honestly with complete dedication to the people and to the nation. He further said that the ultimate resource for any country’s development is not its embedded resources but the capacity of its human’s mind.

Dr. Nurelegne Tefera, President of the University in his part said that Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), is working firmly to back and sustain the rapid economic growth and transformation that our country is undergoing, through technological transfer, invention of new technologies and training of highly qualified personnel

To realize its obligations, currently, AASTU has established a new research based master and Ph.D. programs in selected national priority areas. To strength the research & technology transfer capacities, he continued, we have also established six centers of excellence and two more will come soon. Collaborations with industries, international universities, and research institutions, local and international organizations are additional strategy AASTU working to attain the intended goals.

The graduation ceremony saw a total of 1708 graduate and undergraduate students from Engineering, Applied Sciences and ICT field of specialization.

High achiever students achieve recognition for their outstanding effort from the day’s guest of honor Dr. Ing. Getahun Mekuria .

 

Three best students namely Abreham Kahsay, Abenezer Girmaye and Semetsadek Haregu are chosen as this year’s “Science Ambassadors” by FDRE Science and Technology Minister. The three students got this golden opportunity by their high academic rank. As it was said on the program, these students will be given an opportunity to visit renowned Science and Technology Universities around the globe so as to get inspiration and look for their better and true selves.
