Addis Ababa Science and Technology University celebrates the 26th anniversary of Ginbot 20 (May 28) -which marks the downfall of the Derg regime- in the presence of top university management.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nurelegne Tefera, President of the university said, “We all give honor to those who let go their lives while fighting to remove the repressive Derg regime.” “It is because of their sacrifice,” he noted, we all enjoy the foundation of peace, democracy and development.”
The Ethiopian government has given a noble mission to Addis Ababa Science and Technology University- which is becoming a science and technology university. Owing to these expectations, Dr. Nurelegne continued, “The University is working vigorously to back and sustain the rapid economic growth and transformation that our country is undergoing through technology transfer, invention of new technologies and training of highly qualified personnel for the existing and upcoming industries.”. Furthermore, he said, new PhD and M.Sc. programs will be launched as of next semester. These postgraduate programs, he continued, will be connected with the center of excellencies.He winded up his speech by saying AASTU is in the right track to achieve its goal.
On this year commemoration day of Ginbot 20, Ato Manaye Zegeye , who is staff of our university and PhD candidate at AAU presented a paper on the philosophical notion of the Ethiopian Federal System. In his paper, he discusses the fundamental principles the constitution is relied on. Human and Democratic Rights, Separation of State and Religion, Sovereignty of the people, Supremacy of the Constitution, and other basic concepts of the constitution are discussed in his presentation.
