Recognition of Achievement
Back in April 2016, China Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopia(CCCE) and Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support AASTU in its endeavor to produce competent graduates to the existing and upcoming industries.
As it is clearly stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two Organizations, China Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopian (CCCE) has expressed its commitment to launch an Education Foundation aiming at supporting the higher level education in Ethiopia-with its own resource- in the form of financial scholarship incentives.
It didn’t take too long to realize what was written on paper into reality. Just last year, a total of 129 undergraduate science and engineering students of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) were benefited from CCCE scholarship scheme.
On this year December 12, 2017 another 134 undergraduate students from year 1 to 3 become winners of the CCCE funded scholarship. The awardees have demonstrated strong academic performance and good ethics during their stay in the university. Apart from the financial incentive, the students will also be given priorities to be chosen internship programs in Chinese industries, Chinese universities and even to be employed in well-known Chinese companies.
Speaking on the award giving program, H.E. Prof Afework Kassu, State Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, expresses his appreciation to the efforts being made by Chinese companies in the education and capacity building process of Ethiopia. He also states his hope to see more and wider collaborations to flourish with the Chinese government. Chinese business communities and science and technology institutions help Ethiopian through human capital intervention and technology transfer.
H.E. Mr. Tan Jian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ethiopia, in his part says, his government will always remain committed to support the ongoing social and economic progress in Ethiopia. He also noted that the Chinese government always encourages Chinese business communities to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities by providing support in different social activities.
The commitment we are witnessing in this regard by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopia (CCCE), he added, they will surely play its part in Ethiopia’s effort to produce the 21st century scientists and engineers.
As the President of AASTU, Dr. Nurelegne Tefera says, the university’s management is hopeful to see further support from the Chinese business community in the capacity building process of the university through expanding and scaling up such intervention programs to the highest level.
Finally, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) is thankful about the exemplary initiative taken by the management of China Chamber of Commerce (CCCE) to support and incentivize AASTU brightest students.
