Hence, admission to the undergraduate regular Industrial Chemistry program is the completion of the Grade 12\/preparatory program and obtaining the necessary qualifying marks in the Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Examination (EHEE) or equivalent academic achievements from foreign countries as well as the STU entrance examination to be set by the Ministry and\/or by the AASTU. Additionally, students are expected to secure a minimum grade of \u2018C\u2019 in Freshman General Chemistry course.<\/p><ul><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Duration of Study<\/b><\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>The duration of the undergraduate Industrial Chemistry program is four academic years (eight semesters). While for the continuing education program will have a duration of 10 semesters or 5 academic years.<\/p><ul><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Graduation Requirements<\/b><\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>The graduation requirement for the program is based on the university\u2019s senate legislation of July 2017, Article 109. To graduate, a student needs to satisfy the following minimum requirements:<\/p><ul><li>All the required courses and the minimum credit hours set in the program curriculum should be satisfied<\/li><li>Acumulative grade point average CGPA of 2.00 must be obtained;<\/li><li>No\u201d F\u201d grade in any course taken for the undergraduate program;<\/li><li>The score pass mark for all courses which have Pass\/Fail grade<\/li><li>Pass mark of National Exit Exam of the In line with this, the University is currently running various programs both in M.Sc. and Ph.D. and envisages expanding in the coming years.<\/p><p>In 2017 G.C, the first postgraduate programs; M.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry and Ph.D. in Chemistry (Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical) were launched. This was a turning point in the history of the Department and a significant step forward toward fulfilling the country\u2019s needs for high-level qualified chemists. The emergence of both M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs created a positive impact on the teaching-learning processes, as well as on the development of research activities of the Department.<\/p><p>The success of the current M.Sc. program encouraged the Department to launch new programs and expand the existing ones to cater to the growing need for skilled chemists by industries, public research, and academic institutes. Hence, the new M.Sc. curriculum in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation is envisaged from this perspective.<\/p><p><strong>MSc Programs:<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong>Sc. degree in Industrial Chemistry<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><h1>\u00a0<strong>Program Objectives<\/strong><\/h1><p>The main objective of the M.Sc. program is to train students in the field of Industrial Chemistry at advanced level and prepares them for industry-oriented jobs. The program will have the following specific objectives<\/p><ul><li>To prepare candidates to explore a multitude of applications areas of chemistry and materials including polymers, metals and nano-sized materials, industrial catalysis, energy conversion and storage, and process scale-up.<\/li><li>To train industrial chemists who could assume QC\/QA manger, product specialist\u2019s supervisor etc. roles in industry as well as academic and researcher roles<\/li><li>To groom future leaders in selected areas of technology.<\/li><li>To train students with a broad understanding across all aspects of chemistry, industrial chemistry, and industrial process control.<\/li><\/ul><h1>2.\u00a0<strong>M.Sc. in <\/strong><strong>Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation<\/strong><\/h1><h1>\u00a0<strong>Program Objectives<\/strong><\/h1><p>The general objective of the M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation program is to build theoretical and research capabilities in chemical sciences as required by the national development and academic needs. The Ph.D. program in chemistry will be focused on developing novel materials for industries that include plastics, ceramics, catalysis, optoelectronics, fuel formulation, batteries and supercapacitor, solar cells, surfactants and colloids, personal care products, nanomaterials, and sensors with most of them working as material scientists or chemists.<\/p><h1><strong>Admission Requirements<\/strong><\/h1><p>To be considered for enrolment in the Ph.D. program of chemistry, the applicant must have completed in related Master\u2019s program by thesis from an accredited institution of higher learning rated at least \u201cgood\u201d.
