The undergraduate biotechnology program of Addis Ababa Science and Technology Universality offers students the opportunity to integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of the science degree of their preference with hands-on skills development. The courses of the undergraduate program includes;<\/p><ul><li>core courses providing theoretical foundation necessary for the understanding of the biotechnological processes<\/li><li>courses which are fundamental for the practical endeavors includes, molecular techniques, molecular diagnostics, nanobiotechnology, microbial biotechnology<\/li><li>courses which provide insights and equip students with different preferences for specializations under the program, such as Medical Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, cancer biotechnology and others<\/li><li>Through Integrated Science Team Project, students gain multidisciplinary team work experience to solve problems. Specifically, in 4-5 years of their graduation, the graduates will meet the following objectives as shown below:<\/p><p>PEO-1 Work as supervisors, managers, technical experts with increasing accountability in their carrier<\/p><p>PEO-2 Demonstrate success as an entrepreneur or commercial endeavor<\/p><p>PEO-3 Attend graduate school to advance their studies in various disciplines of biotechnology and related fields<\/p><h2><strong><b>Program outcome (PO)<\/b><\/strong><\/h2><p>Upon successful completion of the B. Sc. In Biotechnology program, graduates will develop the following skills, knowledge, and attributes:<\/p><p>PO-1 Ability to identify, formulate and solve broadly defined technical or scientific problems by applying principles and practices of biotechnology, sciences, and mathematics<\/p><p>PO-2 Ability to formulate or design a system, process, procedure or program to meet desired needs of biotechnological applications in agriculture, industry, environment and health\u00a0development<\/p><p>PO-3 Ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data and use scientific judgment to draw conclusions.<\/p><p>PO-4 An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.<\/p><p>PO-5 Ability to understand ethical and professional responsibilities, and make informed judgment, which must consider the impact of biotechnological solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.<\/p><p>PO-6 Ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, meet objectives and deadlines, and analyze risk and uncertainty.<\/p><p>PO-7 Ability to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and understand the dynamics of the bioscience\u00a0industry to translate scientific innovations into bio-based products, processes, services and viable business opportunities.<\/p><p>PO-8 Ability to acquire and apply new knowledge and technologies for the bio economy development<\/p><ul><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Admission Requirements <\/b><\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>The minimum admission requirements for the undergraduate regular program are as stated in the AASTU Senate legislation of July 2017, Article 78. Hence, admission to the undergraduate regular program in biotechnology requires completion of the Grade 12\/preparatory program and obtaining the necessary qualifying marks in the Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Examination (EHEE) or equivalent academic achievements from foreign countries as well as the STU entrance examination to be set by the Ministry and\/or by the AASTU.<\/p><ul><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Duration of Study<\/b><\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>The duration of the undergraduate Biotechnology program is four academic years (eight semesters). While for the continuing education program will have a duration of 10 semesters or 5 academic years.<\/p><ul><li><b><\/b><strong><b>Graduation Requirements<\/b><\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>The graduation requirement for the program is based on the university\u2019s senate legislation of July 2017, Article 109. To graduate, a student needs to satisfy the following minimum requirements:<\/p><ul><li>All the required courses and the minimum credit hours set in the program curriculum should be satisfied<\/li><li>Acumulative grade point average CGPA of 2.00 must be obtained;<\/li><li>No\u201d F\u201d grade in any course taken for the undergraduate program;<\/li><li>Score pass mark for all
