The FDRE Ministry of Industry has created Forums that links Universities, training centers (TVET), institutes and industries in 17 different industrial sectors in Ethiopia. This action is the government’s leading role to facilitate linkage and create bridge among academic institutions and industries which is believed to result in technological advancement, industrialization growth and as a result economical development. So benchmarking countries with successful stories this linkage was developed in 2014/15 in 17 industrial sectors and the industry development institutes are given the responsibility to support and monitor the Forums which are again separated into Sub- Zonal Forums taking into consideration their locations.These linkages are expected to work collaboratively with a yearly plan regarding the following pillars. These are: Student’s internship, academician’s externship, short term trainings, staff exchange, consultancy services, joint projects, Research and Technology Transfer.
AASTU with respect to departments residing in it participates only in 10 Sub-Zonal Forums. The Sub-Zonal Forums and their member industries, training centers, coordinating offices and leading institutes are described below.
