Welcome to the e-Learning Directorate of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU). We are proud to serve as the central hub for AASTU's digital transformation in teaching and learning.

About the Directorate

Vision

To position Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) as a leader in digital education by integrating innovative, inclusive, and sustainable e-learning practices across all academic programs.

Mission

To implement a robust and scalable e-learning ecosystem that leverages national partnerships in the short term while ensuring long-term institutional ownership through infrastructure, capacity development, and digital content creation.

Strategic Context

The E-Learning Directorate is a newly established unit under the Office of the Academic Vice President. It serves as the central hub for AASTU's digital transformation journey, ensuring that modern teaching and learning practices are seamlessly integrated into the university's academic system.

Currently, the Directorate works in collaboration with national partners such as Addis Ababa University (for studio access) and the e-SHE project (for LMS hosting and technical support). In the long term, the Directorate is committed to developing AASTU's own multimedia studio, managing its own Learning Management System (LMS), and creating high-quality digital learning content internally.

Strategic Pillars and Objectives (2025–2028)

Human Capacity

Build a fully functional multidisciplinary team of e-learning experts.

Infrastructure

Transition from external hosting to AASTU-managed servers and systems.

Studio Development

Establish and operate a modern multimedia production studio.

Content Development

Digitize and deploy at least 50% of core academic courses.

Governance & Policy

Institutionalize quality assurance, intellectual property, and online assessment policies.

Sustainability

Ensure long-term independence from external support, with ≥90% of operations internalized by 2027.

Roadmap (2025–2028)

Year 1 (2025/26)

Launch pilot courses, recruit essential staff, and draft e-learning policies.

Year 2 (2026/27)

Construct AASTU's multimedia studio, expand staffing, and begin migrating LMS services to AASTU servers.

Year 3 (2027/28)

Fully internalize e-learning operations, deploy at least 50% of courses online, and embed digital learning into the university's curriculum and quality assurance systems.
