Message from the Vice President for Academic Affairs

Welcome to Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU).

It is a privilege to be part of a young, ambitious, and dynamic university community committed to making a meaningful difference. At AASTU, we believe that a university is more than classrooms, laboratories, examinations, and academic programs; it is a place where young people discover their potential, develop ideas, build lasting relationships, and prepare to serve society. As Vice President for Academic Affairs, my responsibility is to help create an academic environment where our students can learn, grow, and succeed by ensuring the quality and relevance of our programs, strengthening teaching and learning, supporting our academic staff, and responding to the needs and aspirations of our students.

What makes AASTU distinctive is our commitment to connecting education, practice, innovation, research, and career development. We are developing an academic model grounded in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), aligning learning activities, assessment, and graduate attributes with the knowledge, skills, and competencies our students need. Through integrated Engineering and Science projects, students apply interdisciplinary knowledge to address real-world challenges. Our Fast-Track Programs provide high-performing students with an accelerated pathway from Bachelor's to Master's studies, while our postgraduate programs are aligned with the University's Centers of Excellence, connecting advanced education with priority research areas and national development needs. We have also introduced a dedicated career development slot, giving students structured opportunities for employability skills development, career guidance, industry engagement, internships, job fairs, entrepreneurship, and professional networking before graduation.

As technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and emerging industries rapidly reshape the world, our goal is to prepare graduates who are not only knowledgeable in their disciplines but also creative, critical thinkers, effective communicators, ethical professionals, digitally and AI literate, and capable of continuous learning. In pursuing our mission of delivering world-class education through program accreditation, AASTU continues to strengthen academic quality, accreditation, research, innovation, digital learning, industry engagement, and continuous improvement. Yet our greatest strength remains our people—our students, academic and professional staff, alumni, and partners. I am confident that through teamwork, openness to change, accountability, and a shared commitment to excellence, we can advance AASTU's journey toward academic excellence and institutional autonomy.
