The Education Quality Enhancement Directorate at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University operates under the direct supervision and accountability of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and also works closely with the Office of the President on institution-wide quality matters. This dual accountability structure ensures that quality-related decisions and initiatives are aligned both with academic priorities and with broader institutional goals.

Mission

Guided by this vision, EQED is committed to fulfilling the following core missions:

  • Ensure high-quality teaching and learning: The Directorate works to uphold high standards and excellence in curriculum delivery, assessment, and learning environments to provide students with an engaging and rigorous academic experience.
  • Develop and align quality management standards: EQED is responsible for formulating and updating policies and quality framework that strengthen quality assurance and management across all academic units.
  • Foster coordination, collaboration, and academic excellence: EQED fosters effective communication and cooperation among university units, encouraging shared responsibility and collective effort in advancing academic quality and institutional excellence.
  • Guarantee consistent, high-quality services: The Directorate strives to make certain that all services delivered to the university community and external stakeholders meet reliable, professional, and high-standard expectations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource for the University community in its collective commitment to high level quality;
  • Establish and coordinate the development of comprehensive quality standards, strategies, policies, and guidelines aligned with national and international benchmarks, and ensure that these are implemented, maintained, reviewed and enhanced properly;
  • Lead and oversee quality of academic programs/curricula design, review and approval through rigorous internal & external assessment processes;
  • Works with colleges/departments to provide professional advice and guidance on quality assurance and enhancement matters;
  • Initiates and leads internal audits on academic quality of colleges and departments, and reports the findings to the management for further recommendations;
  • Seeks to enhance teaching & learning, and research quality by identifying and disseminating benchmarking of good practices targeted to support academic excellence;
  • Initiates a university-wide awareness and sensitization programs/forums/conferences/workshops in partnership with national and international quality assurance regulatory bodies to improve a sense of belongingness and quality culture;
  • Establishes and maintains a set of procedures for institutional and academic programs self-evaluation to respond in a systemic and transparent manner to the accreditation requirements of both national and international external quality agencies;
  • Ensures compliance with the University's quality policy and internal quality assurance guideline to meet required standards;
  • Ensures compliance with international quality management systems requirements such as ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 17025: 2017 standards;
  • Prepares annual quality assurance reports on its work, as well as quality audit reports of external audit agencies to statutory meetings of the Senate.
