Addis Ababa Science and Technology University
These days, competitiveness of academic and research institutes strongly relies on the quality of the laboratory facilities available for education and research. The central laboratories at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University is established in 2017 to meet its goal, advancing science and technology in the country. Currently, the central laboratories are serving by creating conducive research environment for researchers and students, and for external customers, through providing advanced laboratory testing services.
The central laboratory at AASTU is committed to service researchers, industries and business companies, and the community in laboratory testing needs. The laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge analytical and characterization equipment such as electron microscopes, spectrometers, and physical properties testing instruments. AASTU's dedication to promote scientific research and technology advancements is clearly observed from the newly constructed world class laboratory complexes. The central laboratory is organized to provide shared facilities for the different center of excellence laboratories such as the nanotechnology and biotechnology and bioprocess.

The central laboratory encompasses three major laboratory divisions such as biological, chemical and the physical laboratories using state-of-the art instruments listed below. Each divisions consist from different laboratory facilities operated by well-trained research assistants to support the researchers in sample preparation, and in running the instruments.
It covers the instruments like the PCR, DNA synthesizer, BOD and COD testing instruments and currently most of them are under installation.
Under the chemical laboratories, different analytical instruments such as ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), Gas chromatography (GC), Ultra violet - Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) (under installation) instruments are available for internal users and external customers.
For the physical properties testing, numerous advanced instruments like the universal testing machine (UTM), and impact testing machine, hardness tester. Surface morphology analysis instruments like the Scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) (under installation).
