Short Description of the College
College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (CEME) is established to emanate one of the founding principles of the university to excel in ICT, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. The College is responsible for academic, research, technology transfer and community service activities.
Vision:
The college aims to become center for excellence in teaching, research and innovation in the area of Computing (Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Computer engineering, among others), Electrical Engineering (Power, Communications, Microelectronics, Control and Instrumentation), Mechanical Engineering (Design, Automotive, Manufacturing, and Thermal Engineering) and Electro-Mechanical Engineering (Robotics, Mechatronics, industrial control and automation).
Mission:
The missions that CEME has been established for are:
- Delivering world-class education and training in strategically priority Electrical, Computing and Mechanical Engineering disciplines based on national economic demand,
- Conducting problem-solving applied research to support the productivity and competitiveness of industries,
- Serving as a center for knowledge, research, innovation and technological transfer in computing, electrical, electromechanical and mechanical engineering areas, and
- Becoming a national hub in computing, electrical, electromechanical and mechanical engineering and technology.

Ongoing funded research projects
The followings are ongoing research projects with about 3.5 million birr in the college;
- Design and implementation of solar and wind hybrid power system for off grid system and promoting green energy.
- Industrial process mapping for real time energy consumption prediction and replication potential of renewables in Ethiopian textile industry.
- Design and manufacturing of light duty 3D printing machine for prototype applications
- Design and development of solar power driven flour mill
- Design and Fabrication of waste plastics recycling machine
- Smart electric power management at the customer end with prioritized service provisions
- Design and development of a battery operated inter-mobility vehicle to reduce the dependence on nonrenewable resources.
- Design, Fabrication and heat transfer analysis of integrated solar and biogas energy system for drying process.
- GPR based water resource reservoir cum nondestructive inspection system for detecting underground water leakages.
